Technopark Cycle Club
By Ria Sharma

On Dec 6, 2011, the Technopark Bicycle Club was launched by the Honourable Kerala Chief Minister Mr. Oommen Chandy. In all, 55 cycles in blue and white which are sponsored by Allianz were flagged off from the Thejaswini building by the Chief Minister at 5 pm.

The ‘Why Not Cycle for a Green Environment?’ initiative was conceptualized by the Allianz, Technopark and Technoparktoday.com teams after taking into consideration the parking woes, pollution, traffic congestion and the sedentary life faced by employees of the Technopark.  Technopark in Kerala is one of the key IT / BPO / KPO hubs of India.

Athi’s bicycle club with its unique sms-based cycle sharing scheme has been roped in to maintain and service the cycles. Any employee at Technopark can register themselves for free and avail the cycles at a nominal hourly rental of Rs 2. There are cycles for both men and women and five racks with 10-12 cycles each will be parked across the campus for easy access. “I hope that employees of Technopark would utilize the services to the maximum and pedal their way to good health and eco-sensibility and also have fun while doing so,” said Athirup, the founder of Athi’s Bicycle Club.

“This initiative is targeted at making it easier to travel between buildings within the campus. At Allianz, with over 1,100 IT/ITeS employees and offices spread across four buildings, cycling between facilities will make life happier and more productive “, says Amit Passi, Director and Head of BP, at Allianz.
