Techie writes The Wake Up Call By Sharada Balasubramanian
Today, young Indian authors are on the rise, especially books by young techies and their lives at their workplace. Saptharishi Suresh has authored a book titled ‘The Wake-up Call’ published by Frog Books. With about five years in the IT industry, Suresh now works for Cisco in Bangalore. Suresh was always keen on writing and penned his first story in Tamil at the age of nine.
Saptharishi Suresh says, “I never took my writing interest seriously until recently. One day, during a time that I was spending long hours at workplace, I told myself that I ought to do something different in life. It was then I thought of reviving my earlier days' passion of writing.”
He believes writing from experience is great. By working in IT industry, he understood the nuances of what goes on in the daily life of professionals in the tall facades and cubicles-the fun, laughter, issues and drama. In his words, “As I work in the IT industry, I was inclined to write a story in that framework. This novel developed from my own experience added with a spice of imagination. Since this is my debut novel, I felt like starting on a lighter note. So the story has both humour and philosophy.”
The novel developed in the backdrop of the Indian IT industry. It is about how newbies in a software company behave and what runs in their mind. The story underlines that it is high time for the Indian IT companies to change their business strategies to do even better.
The book also talks about comparative analysis of 'Time' and 'Money' as to the argument on which is greater. The story also deals with the caste based reservation policies followed in the country.
He says, “Keeping this in mind, I wrote the novel basically to trigger some thought process and debate by presenting different perspectives to the choices made in life. “
Juggling a job and writing was a real challenge, he admits.
Suresh’s inspiration for writing is Ruskin Bond and RK Narayan. He hopes to bring out a sequel to this book, on IT. (11/24/2010) |
