Megaupload cars By Sumir Singh
The US Government has moved against one of the most popular file sharing website in the world – Megaupload. At least 3.7 percent of its visitors are Indian who logged on to download pirated movies, TV shows, music etc.
The US Government has made a number of allegations where the dollar figures are difficult to prove or disprove. According to the US Government, Megaupload caused losses of $500 Million to copyright holders and made criminal proceeds to the tune of $175 Million. In the five years of its existence, Megaupload claimed that it had 1 Billion visitors and had 180 Million registered users.
The US Government has seized more than 20 cars including 15 Mercedes, a Maserati and even a Rolls Royce. What is interesting are the number plates on the cars and include ‘CEO’, ‘GOD’, ‘STONED’, ‘EVIL’ and ‘MAFIA’. There is one number plate ‘GUILTY’. Venturebeat has the list of cars seized
