Google Jagriti Yatra By Bala Shah
Regular readers of Techgoss are well aware that a large number of our articles are crowd sourced. People send in tips, photos, story ideas and even articles. Many of our contributors have full times jobs in IT - ITES, and so prefer using a pseudonym. A Tipster who prefers we only publish his first name Amit* wrote in
“ Over the weekend, Google India blogged about their Jagriti Yatra throughout India which ‘took more than 400 of India's highly motivated youth (ages 20-26) on an 15-day trip to introduce them to India’s challenges, and to the individuals and institutions that are developing unique solutions to those challenges. The goal is to inspire these young people to develop and lead social and economic entrepreneurship in their own communities. Each year, around 50 experienced professionals also join the Yatra to serve as mentors, and this year, five went along for the ride.’
This is a great idea and has many positive points. But two things to note are
- For some reason, this Google Jagriti Yatra skipped Jammu and Kashmir and all our North Eastern States like Assam, Mizoram and Tripura (See Map above)
- Also, it is called Jagriti Yatra which involves images of spiritual realization akin to what Gandhiji did. Or what Anna Hazare plans to do with Jan Lok Pal. But Google’s blog post is signed off by a ‘Google Principal, New Business Development’. So, was it an exercise to develop new business rather than a Jagriti Tour? Perhaps, a bit of both! In India, we manage to mix spirituality and money quite well. “
