Syntel females ask police for help By Sandhya
Over the last 12 months, Techgoss had published a series of exclusive reports giving details of all that was happening inside the BPO, KPO and IT divisions of one of India’s most successful IT-ITES companies Syntel. One report showed how that in the recent past Syntel BPO was overly reliant on couple of key clients. Also, reported were the exits of the CEO and key HR people.
Regular readers of Techgoss are well aware that a large number of our articles are crowd sourced. People send in tips, story ideas and even articles. Many of our contributors have full times jobs in IT-ITES, and so prefer using a pseudonym.
Since our exclusive stories on Syntel and other IT-ITES companies, a number of Tipsters have been kind enough to send in human interest happenings in their companies. Recently, we received a very in-depth Tip about how some female workers of Syntel KPO have made a cry for help to ensure they get better security. Unlike many Tips Techgoss receives, this one was detailed and backed up with a number of solid facts. This is a serious enough issue for the highest levels of Syntel management to personally look into this matter. Our Tipster tells Techgoss
“ On Monday, local police came to Syntel KPO to check the transport services of the company. The proactive police investigation was prompted by some brave female employees who had complained about the transport services and the drivers. The complaints were that some drivers were drunk, abusive and eve tease the employees .The complaint was made to the highest level of the Police Department. Police had taken some girls in a conference room and addressed their issues and found that all allegations were true. It is believed that the letter was sent to Home minister and IG and the Supt of Police in Pune. “
According to our Tipster, the letter to the Police in Pune mentioned the fact that the female employees were inspired by ETV Marathi where the local cops had suggested some very good points for the betterment of the transport system of all companies. The letter made the following points 1) Lady employees are not given security 2) Ladies are dropped on the middle of the road at late nights. 3) Drivers are drunk. 4) Drivers are sleeping. 5) Drivers are involved in eve- teasing the female employees. 6) Many sexual harassment cases are reported by employees, however no action is taken. 7) Drivers are very arrogant and are involved in over speeding which have lead to accidents.
This courageous step by these female employees and the proactive steps by the local police to come to Syntel may result in ‘a stitch in time saves nine’.
