Transparent Twitter
By Asha

Google was the first to launch its Transparency report which gave details of which Government / Private Company requested Google to remove material from Google services like Blogger, Search, YouTube etc.   There are a number of reasons behind these removal requests ranging from censorship of free speech to Copyright and Defamation.

Twitter has launched its very own Twitter Transparency Report.

The primary goal of this report is to shed more light on:

- government requests received for user information,
- government requests received to withhold content, and
- DMCA takedown notices received from copyright holders.

The report also provides insight into whether or not we take action on these requests.

We’ve received more government requests in the first half of 2012, as outlined in this initial dataset, than in the entirety of 2011. Moving forward, we’ll be publishing an updated version of this information twice a year.

..

The US had the most requests to Twitter.  Twitter’s record of protecting its users in India looks good.
