Wikipedia boss disputes our article By Shalini Singh
While Wikipedia itself is one of the greatest and admired examples of all that is good in the world, the Wikipedia co founder Jimmy Wales is regarded by many as a genius but flawed with few human failings. On July 29, Techgoss had written about Jimmy’s relationship with columnist Rachael Marsden. Today, Jimmy has written in to Techgoss disputing our views on that friendship.
(Till we sort this out with Jimmy Wales, Techgoss is editing out what we had published on July 29, 2011 and instead giving you* what his Wikipedia profile says. Everything else in the article remains the same.)
Examiner is now reporting on how Jimmy Wales may have moved down to a middle class existence after a Court ordered him to hand over a house and $90,000 a year in alimony and child support payments to his last wife
“ As reported by Examiner, the divorce records of Jimmy Wales reveal the net worth of the co-founder of Wikipedia to be just north of $470,000. Be that as it may, some of the more intriguing aspects of the divorce papers are found elsewhere in the financial affidavit.
For example, Wales is also the co-founder of Wikia, Inc., a for-profit enterprise spun off from Wikipedia. Gil Penchina is the CEO of Wikia. Jimmy Wales owes Penchina $30,000. Penchina, though contacted for comment, was "honestly, too busy to respond". Wales also owes over $61,000 on a loan payable to his previous company, Bomis, Inc. We cannot say why Wales has not repaid these debts, even though the public records indicate he has over $162,000 in cash sitting in a Citibank account.
… “
The Examiner article also details how Jimmy Wales told the court he needs to spend about $21,000 a month.
*According to Wikipedia ‘Wales had a brief relationship with Canadian conservative columnist Rachel Marsden in 2008 that began after Marsden contacted Wales about her Wikipedia biography. After accusations that Wales' relationship constituted a conflict of interest, Wales stated that there had been a relationship but that it was over and claimed that it had not influenced any matters on Wikipedia, a claim which was disputed by Marsden’
