
Microsoft: online threats in India By Pulkit Sharma
The Microsoft Security Intelligence Report is an investigation of the current global threat landscape. It analyzes exploits, vulnerabilities, and malware based on data from over 600 million systems worldwide, as well as internet services, and three Microsoft Security Centers. The latest Security Threat Report allows you to zoom into the dangers facing countries like India.
To make it even more granular, in 2011, location data was determined by IP address geolocation from computer users who opted to provide this data. Before 2011, location data was determined by user-specified settings under the location tab. To provide trending of infection rates, data collected by both IP address geolocation and user-specific methods appear in the report
Microsoft detected malware on 2.9 of every 1,000 computers scanned in India in 2Q11 (a CCM score of 2.9, compared to the 2Q11 worldwide average CCM of 9.8).
Other key findings of threat categories are:
- The most common category in India in 2Q11 was Worms, which affected 38.3 percent of all computers cleaned in India, down from 40.6 percent in 1Q11. - The second most common category in India in 2Q11 was Miscellaneous Trojans, which affected 33.6 percent of all computers cleaned in India, up from 33.3 percent in 1Q11. - The third most common category in India in 2Q11 was Miscellaneous Potentially Unwanted Software, which affected 30.7 percent of all computers cleaned in India, down from 32.3 percent in 1Q11.
