State Street quiet word to Syntel
By Sandhya

Over the last 20 months, Techgoss had published a series of exclusive reports giving details of all that was happening inside the BPO, KPO and IT divisions of one of India’s most successful IT-ITES companies Syntel.  One report showed how that in the past Syntel BPO was overly reliant on couple of key clients. Also, reported were the sudden exits of the CEO and key HR people.

Regular readers of Techgoss are well aware that a large number of our articles are crowd sourced.  People send in tips, story ideas and even articles. Many of our contributors have full times jobs in IT - ITES, and so prefer using a pseudonym. A Tipster, who has asked us not to publish his name, had sent us a detailed Tip on Oct 15 about how State Street had a free and frank talk with Syntel about the urgent need to hire more qualified / experienced new employees so that they can hit the ground running.  The Little Bird at SS sent the following Tip to Techgoss

State Street and Syntel go a long way.  They launched a Joint Venture in 2004 with IMS (Investment Manager Solutions) being the first KPO Process to be migrated to Syntel.  Even after the Honeymoon period, it was a good partnership. Many State Street Processes from different locations were migrated to Syntel. Like most good marriages, both the parties were very satisfied with each other till now. But now,  State Street has had a “We need to Talk” interaction with Syntel management about the need to ensure that new Syntel staff is better placed to meet their high standards.

The Techgoss Tipster says that the highly regarded State Street Senior VP of the JV Business, Paul Currie, had visited Syntel Pune. The polite but firm Paul held meetings with the Syntel Management about his concerns on the quality of staff being recruited.  Some Syntel Offices have the practice of recruiting many trainees who have zero work experience.

This lack of experience in new Joinees has not resulted in a drastic drop in the quality of work; rather there is a rise in expectations from the Client side.

The popular Recon head, Ashok Yadav, listened carefully to what State Street had to say and has agreed to recruit better staff going forward.  Also, the Managers and Team Leaders of Syntel have been asked to pull up their socks and deliver still better results.

Thanks for the great Tip! Know about something more about this?  Send us a detailed Tip
