Symphony Services: Team Leader Sacked For Not Eating Biryani By Kedar in Bangalore
Symphony Services is a global provider of product engineering and market analytics outsourcing services. Based in USA, it has service delivery centers in Pune, Mumbai and Bangalore. Vishal* had been with Symphony Services in Bangalore for almost 3 years. He had grown the ranks and become a Team Lead in record time and was the obvious choice for the position of an Associate Manager. One day, in late 2006, the HR Department received an anonymous email from a team member alleging that Vishal had submitted a fake bill while expensing his “team outing” bills.
Vishal had submitted a bill for Rs. 12,000 from Hyderabad Biryani House, across the street. An enquiry into the matter brought to light the fact that Vishal had used the money to take a few members of his team to Bandipur. He only took a select few and the embittered ones who were left behind let the cat out of the bag. As a result, he was sacked. Did Vishal really expect to get away with a bill for Rs. 12000 for Biryani for 20 people? What was he thinking? Definitely, not Biryani.
