HCL BPO: Love Is In The Air.  So Are Gunshots
By Nitin Paul

India’s NOIDA based BPO, HCL Technologies, is in news once again. Recently, a girl of this reputed BPO Company had attempted suicide following a failed love affair, in front of a call center in Gurgaon, India.

In yet another twist of events related to a love tangle, the management of this BPO has suspended the services of three of its executives, including one who indiscriminately fired gunshots at another executive in the cafeteria of the BPO. This time also, the bone of contention was a female colleague. The police have recovered 15 live cartridges along with the pistol the executive had used.

The condition of the injured executive is stable but out of danger. The BPO management has beefed up security in the cafeteria following the incident. The incident relates to one Karanjit, Anees Ahmad and the girl Annu. Once friends, Karanjit and Annu parted ways following some dispute between the two. After this, Annu developed a friendly relationship with Anees, which a jealous Karanjit found hard to accept.

Tempers boiled over when the trio happened to be in the cafeteria at the same time. On seeing Annu and Anees together, Karanjit lost his cool and took out his revolver. Without a word to Anees, Karanjit fired two shots at him which missed.  Under attack, Anees ran for his life but a maniacal Karanjit started firing indiscriminately at Anees who was hit by one bullet and fell unconscious to the floor. His fellow executives at the BPO rushed Anees to a nearby hospital.

However, the BPO management did its best to hush up the matter to avoid the eagle eye of the media,  and even the police. The blood stains were washed off even before the police were informed about the incident and rushed to the cafeteria. The police have now arrested Karanjit.

Much to the credit of the employees, calls were answered and it was business as usual that day.  The show must go on.
