eTrack hits deadlock
By Mahesh PV

The ‘etrack’ initiative at the BPIAI (Business Process Industry Association of India) has hit a legal deadlock. Sanjay Mehta (Executive committee member and MD, Teleperformance, India) had proposed this brilliant idea and taken it through many phases before it hit some legal deadlocks. The problem is that individuals and companies will not sign on a legal document thus disabling the whole process. Without the signed declaration, the BPIAI cannot upload data of employees which includes - Name, Last Employer, Last period of employment, Father’s Name etc which would then be shared by various companies.

Through this brilliant initiative, the BPIAI hoped to screen out regular job-quitters. Some companies brand them ‘training quitters’ as they join a company, take the training and just shift to another job for a little more salary. Thus the company loses money spent on training them. Also, adding to the attrition problem industry-wide.

Sanjay Mehta has also approached none other than Raman Roy for advice and discussion. It is known through reliable sources that Raman felt it would be difficult to implement, as it was for NASSCOM (NSR – National Skills registry). Even with the muscle of NASSCOM the initiative has not moved much because of reluctance on the part of employees to co-operate. They feel their privacy is being invaded upon and that their personal information is being paraded openly. With advice from the respected Father-of-BPO industry that everybody must look for other options, we know that NASSCOM and BPIAI have a hard task cut out for them ahead.
