Patni Computer Systems: sued about salary By Bala Shah
Reputed magazine Business Week is reporting that Indian computer programmer Vishal Goel has sued his former employer Patni Computer Systems for only paying half his promised salary when he was sent on a working visa to USA. Vishal Goel has told an American court that he was given a base salary of only $23,310 in USA, while he was promised $44,000 in India.
It all started in 2004, when Patni send Vishal to work for their client State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance in USA. In court documents, Vishal has alleged that when he complained, Patni management threatened him that he would be labelled a ‘troublemaker’. Vishal Goel quit Patni in 2005 but only filed the case in November, 2007. This is not the first time that Patni has fallen foul of American law. In 2007, Patni paid $2.4 million to H-1B visa workers in USA for underpaying them.
Patni Computer Systems is denying the charges and is contesting the claim in court. According to American law, H-1B visa holders have to be paid market rates.
