Verizon doubles Network Engineers salaries By Juan Dela Cruz
My source in the HR Department at FirstSource BPO’s Verizon Business account informed me that recent employees were on cloud nine by the tempting job offers presented to them. As network engineers working for a major local telecoms company here in the Philippines, some used to receive only about 16,000 pesos gross salary. But due to the ramp up of network engineers by Verizon Business, many applied.
Some candidates with over 1 year of experience in troubleshooting local communication networks were expecting a substantially bigger salary offer than the average 16,000 pesos. Verizon Business offered more than double their salary along with some top of the line perks.
He says the salary offer the young Engineers signed was 40,000 pesos for the entry level network engineer post they had applied for. In addition to this basic salary, the contract included 3,000 pesos meal allowance and another 3,000 transportation allowance. Another notable point in the contract was the 30% night differential on top of the salary. This is substantially higher than the labor law mandated requirement of only 10% night differential in the Philippines. There was also a combined total of 45 days of leave included in the job offer which is definitely way more than the 30 days offered at other similar companies.
I shared this information with my other contacts in the call center industry and they agreed that this job offer for an entry level job is unprecented in the Philippines. Verizon Business is also looking for more network engineers to fill up various positions they plan to open next month.
