Dell: Entire shift reprimanded for internet use By Juan Dela Cruz
Gripes just keep piling up against Dell call center managers in the Philippines, a lot of whom have been accused of being unprofessional in the work place. It seems that Dell’s decision to remove some employees for business needs might need a little tweaking. If you ask their so called junior employees, Dell should be digging deeper and find out which managers really need to be let go.
Recently, an entire shift of employees in Philippines was reprimanded because most, if not all of them, were caught playing online games and browsing the internet during work. Though strictly prohibited, it was ‘common practice’ for Dell employees to be browsing and playing during downtimes. This included Shift Leaders who are basically managers. This time they were caught by a senior manager and all agents caught were ordered to be coached and cited for the infraction. After the long day at work, agents began to talk amongst themselves and were asking why a particular male Shift Leader was not given an equal reprimand when in fact he was one of those frequent browsers caught slacking during work time. Most of his agents thought it was very unfair for this particular Shift Leader to get away with the “crime” when he is in fact one of those blatantly browsing online during downtimes and even during peak days.
Reprimands to agents were not that harsh though. People were only given written warnings which would just appear in employee records. Yet people still are still disappointed that supervisors and managers do not seem to be bound by the same conduct rules. It does sound shameful that Dell keeps managers who prefer to slack than be a model of good behavior.
