Satyam Director disappears By Sumir Singh
When Satyam founder and chairman Ramalinga Raju made a public announcement admitting to fraud word Rs. 7000 crores, it sent shock waves through the booming outsourcing industry. Most were convinced that Satyam would crash like a house of cards and cause long term damage to the rest of the highly regarded Indian IT-ITES industry.
Rediff has just done on an indepth article on the key people at Satyam and where they are now. Some were kept in the dark by conman Raju, others turned a blind eye in lieu of generous salaries and perks. And a few were clearly complicit. But one has gone underground.
“ Ram Mynampati, who was then Satyam's wholetime director, also has cases filed against him but is yet to answer charges in the Indian courts. He 'left for the United States' on January 11, 2009, to 'address clients' concerns'. Not much is known about his whereabouts since his resignation on June 23, 2009.
Considered Ramalinga Raju's 'right hand', Mynampati was paid a Rs 3.5 crore (Rs 35 million) annual salary package for the year ended March 2008 -- higher than even the founder's compensation and all the directors put together.
After the acquisition of Satyam by Tech Mahindra, he was replaced by Keshab Panda. “
Fortunately, Satyam was salvaged and is well on its way to become a success again. In the past, it had good staff but was cursed with corrupt leadership. India’s No. 1 English TV Channel CNN-IBN has awarded the Business Leader of the Year Award 2009 to the 6 men entrusted by the Government of India to steady Satyam before its sale to an Indian tech company.
