Best Indian tech April Fool prank
By Bala Shah

Pluggd.in.sourced the fact that Indians search hard for information and titbits about April Fool pranks.  Their research of Google Insights showed that the top 4 countries searching Google for April Fool pranks are – India, Canada, US and UK.  Among Indian States, Maharashtra and Delhi lead the search for April Fool pranks. But not many actually play April Fool jokes.

Maharashtra based tech blog PuneTech can be credited for a very clever April Fool idea which involved much time and effort.  And by all accounts, the joke had every in stitches.

PuneTech roped in professional actors and editing experts who filmed a fake news clip which claimed that despite the recession, Pune would grow strongly beating other tech hubs like Bangalore and Hyderabad.

The volunteers from the Film industry who worked on this project spent as many as 20 days producing the news item which showed a TV anchor interviewing an HR expert about Pune continuing to prosper despite a recession.  The video was uploaded to YouTube and linked to.

The April Fool prank was a stunning success.  As PuneTech wrote in their blog: “Needless to say, the video is completely ridiculous. The fact that many people actually believed it to be real, is a very sad commentary on the state of the real news being put out by our TV channels. We have come to expect trash like this from our TV. Check out the ticker at the bottom of the news video. It has ridiculous items like “Mallika Sherawat enters politics” and a bunch of other such things. “
