Key BPO exec ushers acquisition and expansion
By Juan Dela Cruz
It seems apparent that the acquisition of a key BPO Filipino executive by BPO LogicaCMG was only the first step in its expansion big picture. In less than a week after announcing former Business Process executive director Mitch Locsin was hired as a Global Business Development leader in their company, LogicaCMG can boast of acquiring three European BPO’s to grow its stake in the Euro BPO industry. They also have indicated their desire to shift directions towards a more lucrative business segment in the BPO industry.
LogicaCMG, which has a sizable workforce of 40,000 workers in Bangalore and Mumbai and also a small workforce of about 220 employees here in the Philippines, has acquired majority ownerships of Unilog, Edinfor and WM-Data all of which cater to several European countries.
According to Logica top executives in Philippines, they have acquired the services of a respected BPO figure like Mitch Locsin to make sure that their consolidations plans from these acquisitions will go smooth-sailing as they establish a bigger presence in the Philippine BPO sector. According to them, expansion in the Philippines will more likely involve workforce doing back-office work such as finance, accounting and human resources. IT outsourcing, application and development for European companies will more likely be kept out of the Philippines because of limited manpower pool of talents that are knowledgeable in business software such as SAP.
Logica will most likely be acquiring a bigger office space somewhere in the south metro Manila area to house their expansion to about 1,000 employees in the Philippines by this year’s end.
